Some Things
This post is a bit of a mix of things I have been up to recently, and things that I am planning to do in the near future as well as some updates on some of my projects.
Consider it a summary post which will fill the gap until I get back into my regular posting schedule.
Previously
Here are some cool things that happened over the last month or so.
Summer Holiday
Carrie and I, as well as Tasha, Steven, Chris and Sian took a week out in June to go on Summer Holiday! We headed down to Totnes where we rented a great 3 bed house. It was a great relaxing week and in all honestly no one wanted to leave. Still it was nice to return to work fresh and energised. I bought my 400D in time for the holiday, and so was able to get some nice photos to remember the holiday by.
Featured in .net Magazine
A while after the May 1st Reboot Christian Hall from .net Magazine contacted me to ask if I would like to be included in the Gallery section of the the magazine. Silly question I thought, of course I would! He asked me a couple of questions and told me that I would be featured in issue 165.
Sure enough, issue 165 turned up on my doorstep (I’m a subscriber) and there was my site, large as life on page 52. I was super stoked! This is the first time that my name has been featured in print, and probably one of the high points of my career in web design.
Project Update
Now for an update on some of my projects.
blog.critical
I am still really happy with the site at the moment, one of the few designs I haven’t ended up hating as soon as I put it live. There are still a couple of tweaks that I would like to do, the archives page could use a little bit of love, as could the About page. I also have a few little things I would like to do to the home page, and I would really like to get it over to the latest version of WordPress.
Scorched Archive
This has been a fun little project which I am still enjoying writing on. The site could use a whole lot of love, though it may have to wait a while longer whilst I get some other things out the door. I would also like to upgrade WordPress, and should probably try and find time to actually paint some models.
Up Next
Finally, a little bit on what I will be doing next.
Articles
I have got a couple of follow-up articles which I want to write. First up is a sort of sequel to the post I wrote about WordPress Utilities Plugins. I also have the second part of Designing with a Grid to write which will cover more of the technical implementation so stay tuned for those or subscribe to the RSS feed.
My Next Big Project
Since the start of the year I have had an idea of a site I would really like to build. Now I am finally finding time to get down and hack some code together. The site is going to be something social, something community based, which will hopefully fill a currently empty niche. I hope to get it online by the end of the year, it is probably the biggest project I have ever undertaken, but I think it will be pretty cool.
Hopefully I will be able to explain a bit more about it over the coming months, once I have something concrete to talk about.
