Of Interest

It’s been a while since I put something down in writing on this here blog, I must get back to a regular posting schedule, I think every fortnight seems like a pretty reasonable target, so expect my next post in 2 weeks! Until then here is some stuff that has caught my eye on the ol’ T’internet recently.

Rails 1.2 RC1 The long awaited Rails 1.2 is out in Release Candidate form, the community seems to be pretty excited about the REST support (note to self, read up on REST) and there seems to be some other cool stuff included. Install it with: gem install rails --source http://gems.rubyonrails.org --include-dependencies

script.aculo.us 1.7 beta 1 Along the same geeky, rails track (pun intended!) script.aculo.us 1.7 is out, though in beta (shock horror!) the new morph feature is looking good, but I think we will be hard pushed to find a use for it that aids the user experience rather than just making things look pretty. Make sure you check out the demo page.

Wooden Case Mod You have to give it to the PC modding community, they do come up with some crazy and beautiful ideas, but now water cooling has become a staple feature of every PC, the modders have to find more exciting and extravagant cases. This Wooden case mod is a perfect mix of old style craftsmanship, new technology and A grade aesthetics.

Kuler A great little flash widget/site from the Adobe Labs. Create colour themes using a slick and fun interface. Have a play and you will see how polished it is, it will be interesting to see if Colour Lovers V2 (which at the time of writing is set to launch in a day or so) can top what Adobe have pulled off with Kuler.

Flickr Camera Finder Flickr rolled out this great little feature a couple of days ago, showing what cameras the community are into at the moment, seems the Canon EOS Digital Rebel XT is miles out in front at the moment, may be worth a look for this looking to pick up a DSLR this Christmas.
