Motion City Soundtrack Live

Thursday night I made a trip into London with Carrie, Steven and Tasha in order to go and see the awesome Motion City Soundtrack Live at the Astoria. The gig was brilliant, the Astoria is a really intimate venue which meant there was a really great vibe and the support acts where superb.

The Matches Live @ The AstroiaThe Matches where first up, I always think that playing for a crowd who is waiting for the headline band to get on stage must be one of the toughest things a band could do but it didn’t seem to bother the Matches. They played an excellent 45 minute set, though they ended with a down beat song which in my opinion was a bad choice, i thought they should of gone out with much more of a bang.

After the Matches went off stage i had a great surprise of the evening. I happened to bump into Max Anderson. Now, I’m pretty sure none of you are going to know who Max is, but let me tell you that he is a professional Streetboarder. He rides for Highland Streetboards and happened to rip it up at this years Nationals, taking 1st in both Street and Mini Ramp. It’s the second time I’ve met Max, the first being at the Leeds Weekender I attended a couple of years back. Lets hope it’s not the last time I run into Max. It’s a rare thing to see another Streetboarder at a skate park, let alone see UK’s top rider at a none Streetboarding event, I was stoked!

OK GO Live @ The AstroiaAfter the brief encounter the next band was up on stage and ready to rock. A little band who go by the name of OK GO, who seems to have an internet following thanks to some clever YouTube based marketing and the ability to dance rather well on 8 treadmills. OK GO where also fantastic, playing a selection of great songs including “Here It Goes Again”. The highlight of the set must of been at the end where the band lay down their instruments in order to perform the “A Million Ways” dance. It was a hilarious sight, and the crowd went wild.

Motion City Soundtrack Live @ The AstoriaThe hand painted banner was raised and 10 minutes later Motion City Soundtrack where on stage blasting out the classics. There was a great vibe in the Astoria by this time, everyone was moving and singing and just generally having a good time. Highlights of the set for me where “Don’t Call It A Comeback” and the “Future Freaks Me Out” encore. Carrie had a brilliant time as MCS are her favourite band, so I am glad we got to see them together. I was hoping to pick up a tour shirt but there was only cheap knockoff’s on sale after the gig.

All in all it was a fantastic night, and I urge you all to check out the bands. Just so you have no excuse here are Pure Volume links for The Matches and Motion City Soundtrack.
